Timeloop 03:20
There's something happening All the time I wait for your word My dear I've been holding back in all ways Cause good love is a way I'm Sincere I hope you come around Cause time is in a loop And I'm still on your stoop Just hoping you come back home If love is in your heart That's a better start Than hoping There's love all around There's something happening All the time We'll take what we get From here Do you suffer in your own way You'll do so until you're not Not here Or til you come around Cause time is in a loop And i just can't recoup It's fine I'm always fine I'm in all ways With love that's in my heart And that's a better start Than hoping There's love all around

Beacon 05:14
Whisper the end I'm on my way out Calling a friend Finding a way out Losing my mind Loss is the same now As it ever was But lingers for days Now I don't wanna scare you I don't wanna scare you But you were my beacon Now i just don't know what to do Carry the torch Or bury the embers We'd talk on the porch For days I remember They call to say Sorry you left us And I'm sorry too Wish i could trade places With you I don't wanna scare you i don't wanna scare you But you were my beacon Now I just don't know what to do

JOI 03:16
Oh I fear I'm running from my every joy Right back to you At my age Been running for so long I just can't get through Oh I feel it coming for my every joy I'm running right back to you At my age been running for so long That's just what I do I'm writing songs They're better than ever I lost my job I'm better than ever Haunted in my sleep I'll never get better Lies I might repeat You never know Oh I fear I'm running from my every JOI

Pane 06:50
It's a before picture of you Waiting your turn just like you do Falling apart to find a way Locked in the dark you feel ok Are you making moves Are you ready Waiting for the light To return I don't make the rules Just get in Riding every storm Til it's done But everyone's faithful By any means Just cutting chords Like God sent a message Suddenly Everyone's faithful now Or misunderstood What's yours is yours Like God sent the message All is good Is it your soul you compromise Is it your heart that feeds your mind I can't pretend to know what's right So I won't begin to pick a side All these little thoughts They gather Finding out what works Still hurts Choosing what you want Over what matters Leaves you face down in The dirt But everyone's faithful By any means Just cutting chords Like God sent a message Suddenly Everyone's faithful now Or misunderstood What's yours is yours Like God sent the message All is good

Fatman 03:11
They say they built a bomb To add a little ambiance But everything is nothing til you give it life (Right, Right) You wanna make them stop But stay and stop They always sound the same These days And everything is nothing til you give it life right (Right, Right) Fallout Give me shelter's what she prays at night Fallout Cause I might never be the staying type, no Fallout of love The end is near The end is near The end is... So now that we're alone Just waiting for our screens to load Hoping if you're open Something real could explode And flow I watched you from afar The caption and the avatar Infatuation's natural with every scar Fallout Give me shelter's what she prays at night Fallout Cause I might never be the staying type, no Fallout of love The end is near The end is near The end is...

about

Greetings, precious ones, and welcome to the artistic alter ego of Jo-Jo Rose! To some degree, NXNES {pronounced ’NUNS’) is simply a musical veil and blanket, wrapped and covering Rose since 2007. But it’s far deeper than that in mission and scope. We hope to break down all walls of division, and reinforce people with confidence in unity through music and visual arts. The covering of the faces in our representation is a subtraction of the artist from the content, with hope that the audience will include themselves; sort of a “your face here”. “We are one, we are NXNES!” is the mantra.

Starting in 2001, Rose began his musical journey playing in various metal and punk (sometimes ska) bands as a young teen in his hometown of New Bedford, MA. At the time, he was only comfortable playing bass, but privately he was on a quest to ‘cut out the middlemen’ by learning multiple instruments (primarily guitar, bass, and drums), embracing audio engineering, and performing solo. He and his childhood friend recorded the first NXNES material as something called “Estramound”; taking from the first line of Samuel Beckett’s “Waiting For Godot”.

The true baptism came between 2004 and 2010 when he lived in Washington, DC and attended Howard University. Unlike Massachusetts, DC/HU provided a space for him to socially feel comfortability, opening him up to truly delve into his knack for the musical craft. He connected with the DC hip-hop/soul/r&b scene and took on mentors who helped him flourish and pushed him to understand the Dilla-ism of creating with negative space. This became fundamental to everything he created. The level of artistry was so high and inspiring in DC, it pushed his aesthetic to new heights and NXNES was truly born in 2009 when he started performing with just an acoustic guitar.

2011’s Love and Hunger, NXNES recorded with a computer mic and the qwerty keyboard. It was the beginning of building an aesthetic focused on rhythmic and soulful energy that has carried through the rest of his career. It was also the beginning of his understanding that although he is creating something with the familiar feel of R&B/Soul, it’s also profoundly unique especially in message. Supporting women, songs about love as it equates and intertwines with death, addressing the mental health of the black community as it relates to the United states while also speaking as an American, and the all important talks with and of ‘God’.

In 2015, KIM, NXNES’s second release, was a deeper journey into ‘being’. Questioning what you know while remaining confident in who you are was at the focal point of that collection of songs. The sentiment only deepens with each release. This journey can only be made through connection and sincere interaction with audiences and other creatives. NXNES believes that a universal ego death and subsequent embrace can solve much of the world’s societal issues, starting everyone at 0…none. WE ARE ONE, WE ARE NXNES!

This piece is just the beginning of an exploration of patience and depth in a genre all too riddled with archetype and margins. This album is for my father, EC, and Holli.
